Year of the Dracul Series!

January 16, 2016 at 9:42 pm

DraculRereleaseThis year we’re making it the YEAR OF THE SAILOR MOON DRACUL SERIES!

“Absolutely, you must never doubt it…
The dreaming children’s dream of dreams…“

Check out the Download Page here:

This set of wonderful original musicals penned by Junya Saiki with music by Akiko Kosaka and lyrics by Saiki and Kayoko Fuyumori has been under appreciated by the Sailor Moon fandom for far too long!

This series stars none other than Usagi Tsukino, Soldier of Love and Justice as she goes on a journey with her friends, the Sailor Soldiers, to discover what it means to be a “perfect, flawless human being”, whether a “Lullaby” can solve loneliness and just what the “true mission of Light and Darkness” is. In the Dracul Series, Sailor Moon faces multiple groups of Undead enemies who form an unsteady alliance against God’s Humanity that rejected them.

The Dracul series is full of wonderful songs from sweet duets like “Gondola Sweethearts” to 11 o’clock numbers like “We’ll Be the Last Victory”, villain numbers such as “Sonnet of Darkness” and numbers where the villains sing about goals that may not be so villainous after all like “Fateful Encounter ~ LIlith and Astarte”. Each of the Guardian Soldiers receives their own theme song for the first time as well, and of course, the Outer Soldiers are ever-reading with their powerful numbers like “Bundle the Hearts ~ Watchin’ On The Sight”.

In traditional Sailor Moon fashion, this Series explores themes of Jealousy, Loneliness, Dreams, Friendship, Love and Motherhood.

In this series we are introduced to a cast of wonderful, memorable villains like the enigmatic Lilith of Darkness whose goal is to build a world of equality between woman and man and human and spirit, Death Lamia, a vampiress who has found the feeling of blood in her body the closest thing to living for six hundred years, Bloody Dracul Vampir, a Dhampir who wishes for her heart to be thawed, and of course the infamous Sheba Shingetsu Astarte, also known as Sailor Astarte, tenth Sailor Soldier from behind the Sun. These characters and more are just waiting to be met.

The Dracul Series is named for one of the principal characters, Count Dracul and Bloody Dracul Vampir, the mysterious Head Vampire from Wallachia, Transylvania and his daughter respectively and spans four musicals, the third being a revised edition of the second though we recommend watching both to explore all the characters and themes in this series.

The first of the Dracul series, in this musical, Usagi has an evil dream where she learns a calamity will occur each time she transforms.  On a date with Mamoru the next morning, the dream seems to be coming true… Sailor Moon must find the courage to fight these demons from the Middle Ages… Death Lamia, Undead Berserk and Count Dracul, who have an Unholy mission to create artificial life… Homunculus. Meanwhile Ami is given an opportunity to study abroad and Usagi finds this difficult to deal with.

Usagi, Minako and Makoto have all failed their English tests and are given an ultimatum to get a 100% or they will have no summer vacation. Meanwhile Michiru is headed off on a Concert Tour in Europe but things go awry when their guide never shows up. Count Dracul’s daughter, Bloody Dracul Vampir now seeks revenge on the Sailor Soldiers for the events from the previous show, aided by a duo of Serial Killer Werewolves also with help from her caretaker, Le Fay, and the Magician, Lilith of Darkness. The Sailor Soldiers are invited to the Mansion of Memories. However, each of the villains have their own agendas… Who will be The Last Victory? To complicate matters further still… a new Sailor Soldier shows up… but is she a friend or is she a foe?

Decisive Battle / The Forest of Transylvania – Revised Edition
The Enigma of the Ultimate Enemy, Dark Cain

Download (Right Click, Save As) // Translators Notes

In this revision of the previous musical, which retcons some major scenes to prepare for the Finale, the plot outline is essentially the same, however, the ending and fates of the characters is wildly altered. The story of Lilith and Astarte is moved into the background for the story of the Ultimate Enemy, Dark Cain to take full stage. We recommend both these musicals to be watched.

The Seal of the Super Planet Death Vulcan

The final musical of the Dracul Series!

Setsuna detects a strange cold wave coming from Europe so the Outer Soldiers intend to head off to Monaco to investigate, leaving behind Usagi’s group. However, the rest of the Sailor Soldiers are not so easily fooled especially with Death Vulcan’s advent so near. When her friends are threatened, Usagi surrenders but at what cost… The villain behind all the Dracul Series is revealed at last but who is it really? Dark Cain? Death Vulcan? In this enigma that spans 7,000 years, Sailor Moon must find a way to finally end the Final War of the Stars and Planets.

Please check out this wonderful and very under-rated part of the Sailor Moon metaseries today!

Special thanks to Joe for helping us prepare this rerelease.

The Deal with Private Mystery Circle

November 22, 2015 at 12:15 pm

Private Mystery Circle is one of the more confusing songs in SeraMyu. If you’ve ever wondered “Wait. What. What was that?” hopefully this will explain it!

We’ll do this verse by verse.

This song MUST be seen in context of ufology and the events of the Black Lady musicals. Throughout this song it seems more and more people are being replaced with droids. Think back to some scenes in the Black Moon arc of the manga and it makes more sense. Basically this is a song that seems cute and sounds innocent but the lyrics have increasingly creepier hidden meanings.

The matter is that I peeked into your eyes…
I found stars, something I’d never seen
I met your gaze and knew with full knowledge…
Those eyes should be… What is this?

Pretty much everything in this song is to do with paranormal phenomena, especially ufology. This song is mainly about droids replacing humans… just without saying droids or humans, think of it like the body snatchers. The first verse is about noticing someone you love not as they should be, in this case something wrong with their eyes.

Maybe, by some chance… (Maybe, by some chance…)
You have multiple personalities
No way! UFO? What are you talking about?
That’s just not, not, not how they should be…
My beloved one… Woo!
Private Mystery Circle!

They now try to find a “reasonable” explanation for what’s going on, suggesting that they have a multiple personality disorder but stating that they love them and that can’t be right. A pun appears here too, with one saying “No way!” (uso) and another confusing it for “ufo”. It should be pointed out here that Private Mystery Circle is not a case of “engrish”, Mystery Circle is a wasei term, Japanese terms made from English. In this case it refers to what we usually call “crop circles”

From the beginning!
Love & Peace
You better take another look at them
Once again…
Dry & Moist, make sure of that!
Return it to zero!
Ding-dong! Ding-dong!
Starting over!

The song takes a creepier turn here on. UFO stands for “Unidentifed Flying Object” UMA for “Unidentified Mysterious Animal”. We do not really use the latter term in English but the Japanese do use it. In this verse, Love & Peace, what humans usually believe in are told to be looked at again and revise these principles. People’s values of Love & Peace are being reconsidered as people are being replaced with droids. Dry & Moist however is less clear, it may refer to the soil of Crop Circles but personally I think this might be a reference to Invasion of the Body Snatchers, which this song seems to be a cuter version of, in that the body snatchers come from pods, perhaps dry and moist refers to conditions for plants. Return it to zero refers to the human population, the Black Moon Clan literally intends to replace human beings with droids. That is “starting over”. Listen carefully at the album version and you can hear two kinds of singing. When they say “Love & Peace” it is in a cheerful happy tone but when they say “minaoshite” (take another look) for example, the tone changes into a sort of mocking tone.

Yesterday, perhaps I had thought…
Love was best, for better or for worse…
But some time ago… Within my heart…
Stars were bursting open, making a sound
The Moonlight’s… (The Moonlight’s…) deed, could it be?
Myself and my spirit… (Heart!)
I want to peek into them!
Private Mystery Circle

Now the singers take a term for the worst, they know feel different. Yesterday that had believed in love and now they are being replaced themselves. They are wondering if this is the work of Space. Mamoru says “Contacty” in the lyrics, this is probably a misspellign of “Contactee” someone who aliens have made contact with. Additionally the word spirit (kokoro) and (Heart) are usually equivalent. However, kokoro has unusually been written in the katakana writing system, often used for loanwords, however in other cases such as this it gives a touch of artificial-ness to the line, writing “kokoro” in katakana gives the idea of the person saying it is not truly alive.

From the beginning!
Love & Peace
You better take another look at them
Once again…
Dry & Moist, make sure of that!
Return it to zero!
Ding-dong! Ding-dong!
Starting over!

Back to the chorus. I hope I’ve helped explain another song that people often have had trouble with!
