Okaasan te Nan Darou?

Okaasan te Nan Darou? (お母さんてなんだろう?) I Wonder What a “Mother” Is? is a song performed by Chibiusa, Mikku, Fukku and Kukku and King Endymion in “Kaguya Shima Densetsu”, and its revised edition, when Chibiusa attempts to turn the kittens against their Mothers. In the Marinamoon version, Mamoru replaces King Endymion and it is now about Chibiusa trying to comfort Mikku and Fukku. In the original version of this song, the first few lines are taken from “Chibiusa no Hanran”.

English

I mean it this time, this time I’ve really snapped
A mother that does nothing but scold
I really hate that!
I’ll play to my heart’s content, even if I’m all alone
I’ll have no worries!

I wonder what it means to be “scolded”?
I’d like to be scolded

The only thing we remember about that day…
Our mothers weeping as they disappeared into the sky
They overflowed… They fell into pieces… Their teardrops…
They turned into jewels and were left behind

Someday they will definitely come for us
We want to meet our mothers who we’ve been believing in and waiting for
We don’t remember their faces, but always
We look at our jewels and long for them

You long for your mothers? To meet them?
That’s because you’ve never been scolded!”
But a “mother” I wonder if they’re such a good thing?

When a child does something they shouldn’t
A Mother must scold them for that
“Isn’t that how it is?”
Always wishing for the happiness of her children
Loving them… That is a Mother

Again, again, suddenly, it’s Chibiusa!
Even if you tell me to go home, I won’t go back
I mean it this time, this time I’ve really snapped
I’m totally serious, I’ve run away from home

A place where mothers are…
A kid just can’t have fun living

Do your studies! Answer me!
Brush your teeth! Wash your hands!
Nagging and nagging…
Being a kid who does everything her mother says…
That’s the meaning of a “good girl”?
I really don’t think so!

A place where there aren’t mothers
A kid can be happy

A full tummy from eating sweets
Staying up late, sleeping in, all tired out
Just doing the things I love…
Is that so wrong?
I really don’t think so!

I mean it this time, this time I’ve really snapped
A mother that does nothing but scold
I really hate that!
I don’t want to be in the 30th Century
I won’t go back!

Your sparkling eyes…
…are more dazzling than any jewel
If you gaze with those eyes
The whole world is trounced in a single hit

That’s an “I love you”
It has the same meaning, doesn’t it?
You’ve got me spellbound…
…with your sweet words, Why don’t you kiss me?

Baby, come to me
Love you, only you
Hear me, only me
You’re My Jewellery

Even a jewel is
outshone next to your charm
Even between you and a great diamond,
you’ve got the advantage

Tell me more and more
Of those pleasant words
I feel like a princess…
There’s only you… Why don’t you kiss me?

Baby, come to me
Love you, only you
Hear me, only me
You’re My Jewellery…

5000nen Kaguya Shima

5000nen Kaguya Shima (5000年かぐや島) 5000 Years, Kaguya Island is a song performed by Leah Ruby in Kaguya Shima Densetsu and its revised edition. A version including Dark Plasman and performed by Dark Menorah rather than Leah Ruby appears in Shin Kaguya Shima Densetsu and its revised edition. In case it is unclear, the title of this song is read “Gosenen” rather than “five-thousand-year-nen”.

Japanese

We have come without losing hope, but
To know the truth may be frightening
